[Fhb-update_ma] FHB Update from PA, 05/13/11

FHB Updates - Mid Atlantic SWW Region fhb-update_ma at scabusa.org
Fri May 13 07:43:10 PDT 2011

We are entering what looks to be a period of wet, cooler weather for the next few days. The earliest wheat in PA is predicted to begin flowering sometime next week. Unless your wheat is currently flowering, a fungicide application today (Friday, May 13) will not provide any head scab or vomitoxin suppression. Cooler weather will likely extend the period of time between heading and flowering by a few days, so keep an eye on this site to monitor the risk levels if you think your wheat will begin flowering in the next 5-10 days. Be prepared to spray at early flowering if conditions permit and risk level is “High”. To choose an effective product, use this chart: http://www.oardc.ohio-state.edu/ohiofieldcropdisease/wheat/OFCDwheatfungicides.pdf
