Wheat is flowering or beginning to flower in many areas of the state and just heading in central PA. By later this week and earlier next week flowering should be beginning in the central counties of the state. The risk assessment tool is predicting a low risk of scab throughout the state, despite the rainy weather this week. Our cool temperatures and low humidity weather over the weekend have kept the potential for Fusarium spore development low. Generally Fusarium spore development is favored by prolonged warm and humid conditions. I would continue to monitor the model carefully and also wheat development and consider fungicide applications if conditions warrant. Warm and humid conditions are forecast towards the end of the week-this might generate more risk than is being predicted now.
