FHB Colleagues,

As you may be aware, the U.S. Wheat and Barley Scab Initiative (USWBSI) publishes an annual article on the impact of Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) in the U.S. This article has been released since 2010 to provide insight into the experiences that small grains growers had with FHB during the most recent growing season.

<https://scabusa.org/pdfs/2022_FHB_DiseaseImpactUpdate.pdf>The USWBSI is pleased to announce the publishing of its 2022 Fusarium Head Blight Disease Impact Update <https://scabusa.org/fhb-disease-impact-updates>. This year commentary from experts in 31 states indicated most regions experienced hot and dry conditions which were unfavorable for the development of FHB; thus, FHB did not impact grain yield or quality for most growers. A few isolated problems arose with FHB in areas were rainfall and high humidity levels coincided with heading and flowering. Higher incidence levels were also observed in fields with corn residue. The FHB Risk Tool did predict high risk for some areas of the U.S and growers that were proactive with fungicide applications were able to mitigate their risk.

The Fusarium Head Blight Impact Article provides an annual report of the crop growing conditions as well as the impact of FHB on wheat and barley in different regions of the United States. Additionally, photos from the different growing regions have been included to highlight specific crop conditions.

We are excited to share with you the FHB Disease Impact Update from this season, make sure to check it out and see what growers in other states experienced.
