Flowering will finish within the next 5-7 days for most DE and E MD growers
with late flowering wheat varieties. Although the risk for MR varieties is
lower than it was over the last 7-10 days, forecasted rains will likely
increase risk through the flowering period. Prosaro, Caramba, or Proline
should be applied to high risk fields when fields have started to flower
(50% of main tillers flowering from center of heads) to 5 days from the
start of flower for maximum efficacy. Growers who had fields flower over the
last two weeks should scout 18-21 days after flowering to assess scab.
Fields or field areas with high levels of scab should stored separately from
low scab fields or areas if possible. Harvest should occur as early as
possible and grains dried to at least 15%. In severely affected fields,
growers should increase fan speed to remove tombstones during harvest.
