Wheat in most parts of Delaware is at late jointing to early flag leaf
emergence (FGS 7-8). The cooler temperatures a few weeks ago almost put us
on track, and I expect to see flowering to start in the early part of May.
Most fields look excellent and diseases are absent or remain low in the
canopy, with a few exceptions. Growers in Southern Sussex County should
scout for stripe rust, but currently the pathogen has not been observed at
meaningful levels and management is unlikely to be required. Check this site
frequently as we approach flowering for updates on head blight.
