Delaware wheat will likely start to flower the week of the 15th. Although
current weather has been hot and dry, conditions may change rapidly with the
tropical storm developing in the Carolinas and other severe weather in the
West. Remember that this forecast is best used to predict risk when your
fields are at flowering. This typically occurs 3-5 days after heads are
fully emerged. Caramba, Prosaro, and Proline are recommended for reducing
head scab and associated mycotoxins. Applications can be made up to 6 days
after the start of flowering with little drop off in efficacy. When applying
via ground at over 6 mph the the best coverage is achieved with forward
facing nozzles (15-45 degrees) delivering product at between 10-20 gallons
per acre. NIS at the lowest labeled rate may improve coverage. Aerial
applications must be made at 5 gallons per acre. Do not apply group 11 (QoI
strbilurin) containing products to exposed heads as these may increase
mycotoxin development. These products include, Aproach, Aproach Prima,
Headline, Priaxor, Quadris, Stratego YLD, Quilt Excel, and Fortix.
