27 April 2011 wheat in Virginia is at the boot stage to splitting the boot. There may be some fields in the south of the James River that may be farther along. Heading should begin in a matter of a day or three depending on the temperatures. Moisture has not been excessive, however, in the next 24-48 hours a significant rain event is likely more or less statewide. Currently, I do not believe that the application of a fungicide is advisable at this time.
