The wheat in central and eastern Kansas is flowering or at the early stages
of grain development that are most vulnerable to Fusarium head blight (FHB).
Some sunny dry weather has reduced the risk of severe FHB development this
week. However, with more rain in the forecast, I am concerned that we could
see the risk increase again soon. Growers in eastern and central KS should
consider using fungicides to suppress the development of Fusarium. The
fungicide products Prosaro, and Caramba are the best option for Fusairum
management. Fungicides containing strobilurin active ingredients are not
labeled for Fusarium and in some situations can aggravate the disease/toxin
problem.
