The wheat in south central and southeastern Kansas is flowering or at the
early stages of grain development that are most vulnerable to Fusarium head
blight (FHB). Recent weather conditions have very conducive for the
reproduction of the Fusarium fungus and disease development. The model is
indicating a moderate risk of severe FHB for these regions of the state.
Growers in these areas should consider using fungicides to suppress the
development of Fusarium. The fungicide products Prosaro, and Caramba are the
best option for Fusairum management. Fungicides containing strobilurin
active ingredients are not labeled for Fusarium and in some situations can
aggravate the disease/toxin problem.
