Many wheat fields in southeast and south central Kansas will be heading this week and may be flowering within the next 5 to 7 days. Most areas of the state have been extremely dry and the risk of Fusarium head blight remains low. Recent humid and rainy weather in southeast Kansas; however, has increased the risk of Fusarium head blight (FHB) developing in this area. Growers in this part of the state should be evaluating the disease risk in their area and preparing to spray a fungicide at flowering if conditions remain favorable for disease. Fungicides such as Prosaro, Proline, and Caramba can help to suppress the severity of FHB. Products containing tebuconazole (Folicur) would also be an option, but offer slightly lower levels of disease suppression.
