Please forward to anyone you know who may be interested in submitting a
pre-proposal.

New U.S. Wheat & Barley Scab Initiative Funding Opportunity -
"Transformational Science" (TRSC) for FY21

Deadline for Pre-Proposals: February 1, 2021

The U.S. Wheat & Barley Scab Initiative (USWBSI) has functioned to develop
solutions for Fusarium Head Blight (FHB or scab) for over 22 years. During
this time, there has been good progress towards developing novel varieties
and management approaches that help control FHB in wheat and barley. To help
accelerate the development of improved germplasm and technologies that
mitigate FHB, the USWBSI Executive Committee is establishing a new research
category referred to as "Transformational Science" (TRSC). TRSC spans all of
the research areas of the Initiative.

The overall goals of the TRSC research area are to attract the expertise of
early career scientists that are not part of the Initiative, recruit and
explore new ideas and research approaches, and develop integrated projects
that leverage the strengths of the Initiative. We request proposals that
meet at least one, but preferably two, of the following criteria:

1)      At least one of the PIs is a new scientist to the Initiative;
2) The proposed work represents a novel approach to address FHB; and
3) Collaboration between scientists from two or more of the current
research areas/coordinated projects <https://scabusa.org/research> .

Interested individuals should contact the USWBSI Networking and Facilitation
Office (NFO) for further information.
