Research Plant Pathologist/Geneticist (Plants) - GS12/13 
Salary Range of $82,484 to &127,512 
The USDA, ARS, Cereal Disease Research Unit/Laboratory in St. Paul,
Minnesota is seeking a Research Plant Pathologist/Geneticist (Plants). The
Unit is responsible for developing strategies to protect small grains
including barley, wheat, and oat, from plant diseases that threaten their
yield, quality, and economical production. This position will develop a
strong research program aimed at understanding, and ultimately preventing,
losses due to Fusarium head blight of barley. Fundamental research knowledge
of the barley-pathogen interaction may be leveraged for developing new
approaches for disease control. The Cereal Disease Laboratory located on the
campus of the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities has a long history of
research in Fusarium head blight and rust diseases of small grains and it is
anticipated that the incumbent would utilize the considerable biological,
informatic, and human resources available to advance research under their
direction. Basic and/or applied approaches to disease control are welcome. 
Responsibilities 
o Plans and executes a research program investigating Fusarium head blight
of barley; 
o Conducts individual and collaborative team research integrating knowledge
of plant pathogenesis into strategies for disease control; 
o Collaborates with other Agricultural Research Service (ARS), university
and private sector scientists to build a multi-disciplinary team
facilitating this research; 
o Analyzes, interprets and disseminates the findings in the form of reports,
presentations and publications in scientific journals.
