Dear HWW-CP Colleagues

We will hold a planning workshop of the HWW-CP group ahead of the next
two-year grant cycle and have it scheduled for Friday, May 10, 2019, at East
Campus University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Our tentative schedule for HWW-CP
meeting is from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM in room Keim Hall 150, east campus UNL
(https://maps.unl.edu/KEIM). The tentative agenda is

1. Regional growers, grower representatives, extension agronomists,
and economists will provide a brief summary of the extent of the FHB problem
in their portion of the region (the nature of the problem), as well as how a
successful outcome to reducing the devastating effects of scab in the region
would change wheat production (the benefit of resolving this problem).

2. HWW-CP PIs will provide a brief summary of their research and
research results (5 slides).

3. Participants will refine the definition of success and discuss a
new timeline for achieving regional success within the context of the HWW-CP
mission and the USWBSI Action Plan.

4. Participants will discuss future needs and HWW-CP research
priorities for ongoing research programs in the region as well as how those
needs and priorities will reflect the needs of changing wheat growing,
milling, baking, and breeding industry.

5. Participants will discuss potential changes in the management and
implementation of the Uniform Regional FHB Nursery, and how to continue to
provide pertinent and timely information for researchers and stakeholders.

6. Participants will develop a rough overall HWW-CP budget based on
the latest information available for the next 2-year USWBSI funding cycle
and the respective needs for the region. Participants will also discuss
parameters and plans for submitting research proposals for the next funding
cycle.

PI/coPI of the HWWCP funded projects are encouraged to attend the planning
meeting. However if PI/coPI cannot make it in person to the meeting, please
send us your presentation and join us via Zoom. The web link will be shared
later.

IMPORTANT: We will have a modest level of funding to support travel and
lodging and PI/CoPI who needs financial assistance with travel costs should
communicate this need to me as soon as possible, but no later than April 5,
2019 (Friday), with an estimate of the amount of support needed.
